"Not comfortable with how my details were handled"
I went on directline.com expecting it to be straightforward, but the more I used it, the more uneasy I felt. It asked me for a lot of personal information, and I kept wondering what was actually going to happen to all of it once I’d typed it in.
I tried to read through the privacy information to reassure myself, but it was long and not very clear. When I looked for ways to manage my options, I felt like I was just being sent around in circles without getting a simple answer.
Maybe other people won’t be bothered by it, and maybe everything is fine behind the scenes, but I personally didn’t feel comfortable. I wouldn’t want to give them my details again, so it’s 1 star from me.

"Online process felt like a bait and switch"
I tried sorting my policy on directline.com thinking it would be quick and easy, but the identity checks just kept failing with no real explanation. I’d put in the correct details, then it would ask me to do it all over again, which got really frustrating. In the end I had to phone them anyway, so it felt a bit like a bait and switch, you’re pushed to do everything online, but the website can’t actually get you through it. The staff on the phone were fine, but the whole thing was way more stressful than it needed to be

"Got charged wrong again"
My bill were wrong again, and when I reached out, nobody actually fixed it. Frustrating to deal with the same issue more than once

"Price Jump Didn’t Make Sense"
They quoted me way more than I paid last year, and the add-ons were pricey too. I get that things can go up a bit, but at some point it just doesn’t feel like good value. I ended up going somewhere else because it made more sense

Getting the quote was easy, honestly. Just a couple of the questions were kinda unclear, so I had to stop and think about what they actually meant.

"No-claims check was a little slow"
I had to verify my no-claims discount and it took longer than I thought it would. My brother had a similar thing with his insurance, so I wasn’t too surprised, but the messages could definitely have been clearer. It did get sorted in the end, just felt a bit annoying at the time...

"Had to call Direct Line to change…"
Had to call Direct Line to change some details on my policy, and I won’t say the wait wasn’t a bit annoying because it definitely was longer than I’d hoped. But once I got through, the person I spoke to was really helpful and explained everything clearly without rushing me. Got it all sorted in one call, which was a relief. Only giving 4 stars because of the hold time, but the service itself was good and easy in the end

I took out a policy with Direct Line and, to be fair, the cover seems alright for what I need. It’s not bad on the face of it. But the wording was a bit of a slog in places, like you have to read it a couple of times to figure out what’s actually covered and what isn’t. The website worked fine enough, but some bits weren’t exactly obvious. So yeah, it does the job, but it’s nothing amazing...

"Got me back on the road fast"
My car randomly gave up on me, so I called Direct Line and expected to be waiting ages. The guy turned up much quicker than I thought and had me moving again soon after. Weirdly, I remember there was a single traffic cone lying on its side near where I broke down, no idea why that stuck in my head. Really happy with the help I got.

"Easy cancellation and quick refund"
I was impressed with how straightforward the cancellation process was. No hassle, no back-and-forth, and the refund came through quickly. It definitely gave me confidence that they handle things properly.

"Changing my details was such a hassle"
I tried updating my details it just got confusing fast. I got stuck halfway through and there wasn’t really any clear help to explain what to do next. It made the whole thing more frustrating than it needed to be.

"Policy documents arrived at the worst time"
I bought the policy online thinking the documents would come through pretty much straight away, but they didn’t. Maybe it was just bad timing, but I really needed to get everything sorted then and ended up checking my junk mail and logging in a few times before I found anything useful. The cover itself seems fine, but getting the documents was slower and less clear than it should’ve been...

"Online account area needs work"
Trying to manage my policy online has been frustrating. The pages load slowly, the login sometimes just sends me in circles, and I ended up having to call anyway just to change simple details. It’s not the worst experience ever, but the account section definitely needs sorting out

Needed my proof of insurance. It came through in the end, but the site felt clunky and I had to look twice to find it. Not awful, just not as smooth as expected. 3 stars

I had to update my car details halfway through the policy, which was partly my own fault because I’d put it off for a while. It took a little longer than I hoped, but to be fair I wasn’t exactly in a rush until the last minute. Got it sorted in the end, and the price was explained clearly enough.

Buying the policy online was easy enough and the price looked decent, which is why I went ahead with it. The setup emails came through quickly, but after that the onboarding felt a bit messy. I had to enter my details again, and it wasn’t quite as straightforward as I’d been led to believe. I got it sorted in the end, but it definitely wasn’t as smooth as I expected

Setting up the direct debit worked fine in the end, but the payment screens were a little unclear. I’ve used similar services before where the steps felt more obvious, so this took me a bit longer than expected.

"A bit of a rollercoaster with the app"
I got Direct Line with the telematics app, and it’s been mostly alright, but the app can be a bit of a drama queen. Some trips take forever to show up, like they’ve vanished into thin air, and one journey got marked strangely even though I was driving perfectly normally.
Customer service was fine when I asked about it, so no big disaster there, but it does get annoying having to keep checking whether everything has recorded properly. It’s not terrible by any means, it just needs to be more consistent so using it doesn’t feel like waiting for the plot twist every time

"Easy little black box setup"
I plugged the black box in and had it set up quickly. The app found it without any trouble, which was a nice surprise. Overall, it just felt simple and stress-free to get going.
